In 2021, Shamokin City Council unanimously voted in Shamokin's Environmental Resiliency Plan
Vision Statement:
To embody “The City of Energy” by building energy independence and resiliency through clean and innovative renewable technologies and expanding safe, accessible, and affordable transportation options to transform the City of Shamokin into a clean, livable, and green community that fosters a sense of local pride.

Goal Group 4: Grow Shamokin
We also work closely with Goal Group 4 out of the 2023 Reconvening Meeting to Enhance Sustainability. Grow Shamokin meets monthly to discuss priorities of clean ups, increasing and enhancing green space, recycling/reuse, and foraging. Join us if this is something you are interested in!
We are also starting a Foraging Friends Group!
Join us if you are interested in creating community around plants, want to learn about the native species around you, what is edible, and how to safely and respectfully harvest these species!

Shamokin Creek Restoration Alliance
We also want to welcome our new member the Shamokin Creek Restoration Alliance! The SCRA began monthly meetings in 1996 and has been doing important work for the Shamokin Creek since.

Mission: To partner with local government, businesses, and citizens in clean-up efforts, provide educational opportunities for residents living within the watershed to learn about Abandoned Mine Land issues, and restore Abandoned Mine Lands to a condition supportive of commercial and residential development and recreational uses.
If you would like to join SCRA, you can find their public monthly meetings the Second Tuesday of each month, 6:30 pm, at Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area.
